Crisis Looms In Adekunle Ajasin University Over Governing Council Tenure

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko Branch, Ondo State has called on Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) to compel the authorities of the institution to properly constitute the University’s governing Council in line with the law establishing it.

In a Statement signed by the ASUU Branch Chairman, Dr. Sola Fayose and made available to newsmen, the Union subsequently demanded that the proposed meeting of the Council slated for Monday 27 and Tuesday 28, March, 2017, should be put on hold pending the re-constitution of the highest governing body at the institution.

ASUU explained that the tenure of most Council’s members planning to attend the proposed meeting had expired and their attendance at the meeting on the said date would amount to illegal gathering.

According to the Union, the proposed meeting constitutes an illegality as the council is at present not properly constituted and for the purpose of definiteness, the Union observes that all the representatives of the University Senate and congregation on Council have since exhausted their tenures on Council.

ASUU also commended Governor Akeredolu for not including the Council of the University in the boards dissolved recently, in line with the position of the Union.

It is still unclear what will be the next move of the state government on one side, and also the move of the governing Council on the proposed meeting on the other hand if it will now to the pressure of ASUU in calling off the meeting or go ahead despite these points raised by the union.
