Ondo Assembly Crisis Deepens as Lawmakers Fail To Reach Truce

The truce called by the governor Rotimi Akeredolu in ensuring that the warring Ondo state houses of assembly members resume legislative duties may have reached a deadlock after-all.

This is coming as the waring factions fail to agree on terms of peace which is being brokered by the governor.
While the jumoke akindele faction agrees to resign for peace to reign, the ogundeji iroju faction says the impeachment of jumoke akindele and other principal officers stands.
After some weeks of closure, the Ondo state house of assembly complex was on Tuesday reopened for legislative duties to resume.
The re-opening was anchored on the peace move brokered by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu between the warring legislators, but activities may not resume to the house any time soon as the factions have failed to find a common ground.
While the embattled speaker Jumoke Akindele said her faction welcomes the peace move by the governor, the Ogundeji Iroju faction is not too disposed to the move.
While the peace terms include the resignation of Jumoke Akindele as speaker which she obliged, Iroju posited that Jumoke Akindele’s impeachment can only be committed to resignation if the accused officers appear before the panel set up to look into the matter of financial mismanagement.
With a new government in place and baton of leadership sure to change in the state house of assembly, the end to this drama is no doubt in sight for the people of Ondo state.
