INEC Not Aware Of Vacancy In Osun West Senatorial District- Official

The Independent National electoral commission, INEC, says it is yet to be notified of the vacancy in the osun west seat of the senate following the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the occupant of the seat until the early hours of Sunday.

While addressing journalists in Osogbo, Osun state capital, the Administrative secretary of INEC in the state, Ademusire Akinyemi said the electoral law of the country has stipulated the procedure to follow in informing the commission and filling any vacant elective office in the country.

The administrative secretary of the commission in osun Ademusire  Adeyemi while reacting to questions explains that as a people, even the deaf and blind knew about the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke who incidentally was until his death the chairman senate committee on INEC.

 The Administrative secretary further gives details on the procedures to be taken which include the All Progressives Congress notifying the National Assembly about the demise of Senator Adeleke.
Saying “it is the National assembly which will now write INEC that they have lost a person, you have no official information until the national assembly communicates same to the Independent National Electoral Commission. That will be at that time when we will now begin to take decision to refill the vacant post and the law has given us a timeline within which we must inform the public and set in motion the necessary machinery to replace him(late Senator Isiaka Adeleke).

 Ademusire further said that “we are waiting for correspondence from the national assembly to inform Inec that they have lost a person. The moment it gets to Abuja (INEC headquarters), Abuja will transmit the same information to us here”

Senator Isiaka Adeleke representing osun west senatorial district died on Sunday of yet to be confirmed causes.
