Monkeypox:Test Result To Be Out On Friday - ACEGID

The report of the test  on the suspected cases of Monkeypox disease outbreak in Nigeria will be out On Friday.

The report will explain if the disease is indeed monkeypox or something different.

The Director, African Centre of Excellence for Genomic of infectious Diseases ACEGID, Redeemer's University Ede, Osun state , Prof. Christian Happi, made the disclosure on Wednesday while speaking on the efforts of the centre on the outbreak.

The Centre, according to him is analysing samples from Ekiti, Lagos and Bayelsa states and will provide the primary report , while the report expected from Dakar,  Senegal will be secondary.

Prof.  Happi said the centre is working closely with the minister of health Prof Isaac Adewole and the National Centre for Disease Control NCC.

The Acting VC of the school Dr Emmanuel Adebayo While lamenting that the efforts of the university during the Ebola crisis was not recognized,  said the institution was still being owed a substantial sum of money for the job done.

He said the Federal Government under the former president Goodluck Jonathan was not fair to the University, and appealed to the present  administration to do the needful.

He said the Buhari led federal government must be commended for breathing new lease of hope in the country.

"The University saved the country during the Ebila outbreak crisis, but it's yet to be recognized or paid for it"

"It was based on the report provided by the University that the FG went on to acknowledge the existence of Ebola in Nigeria"

While speaking the Osun State Commissioner for innovations, science and Technology Oluremi Omowaiye acknowledged the research capacity of the University, which he said the state government would be interested in benefiting from.

Seven states of the Federations have reported suspected cases of Monkeypox disease.
