Ondo To Have Seaport Soon - Akeredolu

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State with a private investor on forestry at a programme on Wednesday.

Ondo state will soon have its own seaport.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu made the disclosure at the Flagg off ceremony of the planting of teak and Gmelina seedlings by a private investor at Onipetesi area of the state on Wednesday.

He said  exploration and exportation of bitumen would also commence in the state in earnest.

Serious theoretical and practical engagements according to Governor Akeredolu have started  to actualised the projects.

"Very soon, we shall have a Seaport in Ondo State.  Serious theoretical and practical engagements have started to make it a reality.  Bitumen exploration in the state will also commence in earnest.  These and many more are in the Roadmap which guides the activities of this Government. The development of our environment for the benefit of our people is the reason behind all decisions".

He said all of his administration policies and programmes are geared towards making life meaningful and bearable for the entire citizenry.

While stressing that his administration is determined to reposition the state forestry sub-sectors for greater productivity and accountability, Akeredolu Said he  intends to sustain all efforts aimed at revitalising the forests through  his well conceived programme of Afforestation.

He also sent a strong message that all nefarious activities in the forests would not longer be Condoned.

"We are determined to discourage, actively, the nefarious activities of vandals in this regard. It is our intention to sustain this effort aimed at revitalising the forests through the well conceived programme of Afforestation. The state of our forests confirms deliberate acts of omission or commission, on the part of those whose responsibility it is to ensure and promote the preservation of the environment, have resulted in vast devastation of the forest reserves.

Consequently, our Administration has resolved to seize the gauntlet by taking a courageous step to halt the relentless despoliation of our common heritage by some mindless persons.  The need to privatize Ondo State Afforestation project becomes inevitable in order to avert dire consequences for the environment. The vast devastation, occasioned by flitching, encroachment and other vices, currently going on in the Project, has become unbearable to our Administration. We are determined to put a stop to this unpatriotic act".

In his speech, the director of the private company, Rodrick Roy said a vibrant forestry industry can bring so much benefits to the society and its people.

Laying credence to the position of Roy, the state commissioner for natural resources Rasheed Badmus In his welcome address  disclosed that the state has generated over 3 million Naira from forestry activities within a year.

Apart from its Economic benefit, forestry  can guide against natural disasters, like flood, which is being experienced in some parts of the country, and indeed around the world.
