Ten Years After, Osun Set To Conduct Another Local Govt. Election

The Osun state Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has fixed the 27th of January 2018 for the conduct of the much awaited local government election.

The decision was arrived at in consultation with heads of political parties in Osun state in a meeting requested by the officials of OSIEC .

Gathered at the headquarters of Osun state Independent electoral commission (OSIEC) are leadership of political parties in the state meeting with officials of the  commission.

With a clear departure from the norm, the commission and political parties met to deliberate on the date to be fixed for local govt election.

Giving the mandatory 90 days election notice, 27th of January 2018 was agreed upon.

The poll according to Osiec will be conducted across  local govt areas, lcdas, area and administrative offices. The electoral board also resonates stand of the state govt on parliamentary system to be adopted. Political parties present did not raise objection.

The election if conducted will be the first one in 10 years. The last local government election was conducted during the  botched second tenure of ex-governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
