Be Good Ambassadors of Ondo State in Holy Land, Akeredolu charges pilgrims

The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has admonished Ondo State  Christian Pilgrims to the Holy Land of Jerusalem to be good ambassadors of the state and Nigeria by conducting themselves with utmost respect and integrity expected of patriots.

The governor stated this at the departure ceremony organized for the intending pilgrims in the state for  the Year 2017, held at the Babafunke Ajasin Auditorium in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale, the governor enjoined them to eschew all acts and behaviours capable of tarnishing the good name of the country and that of the Sunshine State in the Holy Land.

Arakunrin Akeredolu, who said his administration places high premium on spiritual exercise, however noted that Holy Pilgrimage was not a social jamboree or tourism, but a journey strictly for spiritual edification and rejuvenation.

"You must exhibit noble roles as worthy ambassadors of Ondo State and by extension, Nigeria.

"It goes without saying that the law of the state of Israel must not be violated in any way, either by abscondment, drug trafficking, prostitution and other social vices", he said.

The Governor, who warned the pilgrims against collecting any doubtful luggage from anyone, added that any offender would be severely sanctioned and such a person might be deported or face long-term prison sentence if found that such luggage contained contraband.

"It is interesting to note that Ondo State has recorded zero involvement in the aforementioned unwholesome behaviours since this government came into power.

"Our government, being a people-oriented one, has committed so much to your welfare, by purchasing enough drugs to take care of your health while in the Holy Land.

"I implore you to reciprocate this gesture by praying fervently for the country and the state for economic buoyancy and most importantly, for the peace in the land and for the completion of all ongoing projects", he stressed.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Omowunmi Olatunji-Edet had urged the intending Pilgrims to be worthy ambassadors of the country.

The Commissioner, who cautioned them against extravagant lifestyle while in the Holy Land, admonished them not to get distracted by unholy things.

Mrs Olatunji-Edet advised them to be conscious of the identity of the Sunshine State and Nigeria on them by being worth ambassadors.

Twenty-nine intending pilgrims from Ondo State on self sponsorship would  be accompanied by one government official on Pilgrimage to the  Holy Land of Jerusalem this year.
