Buhari Orders Payment of Outstanding Paris Club refunds To State Governors

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the payment of fifty percent of the oustanding Paris club refund to state governments.

This was the outcome of an emergency meeting between the President and the state governors at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Addresing state House correspondents after the meeting which held behind closed doors, Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha said the President's latest directive on the paris club refunds to states was borne out of the need to ensure that civil servants across the country get their salaries during the yuletide.

Although the governors did not reveal the figures expected from the Federal Government, they are hopeful that the funds will go a long way in addressing some of the challenges in their respective States.

The second tranche of the Paris club refund to thirty-six states and the federal capital territory was paid in July this year.

Seven hundred and sixty billion naira of the London/paris club refunds has so far been released by the ministry of finance to the state Governments.
