Ekiti NUJ Update:Parallel Caretaker C'mtees Emerge As Electoral Committee Gets Disbanded

The expected election of the Ekiti state branch of the Nigerian Union of Journalists which was earlier disrupted could not hold as the National  headquarters dissolves the electoral committee put in place for the conduct of the election.

National headquarters of the union thus inaugurated a five man caretaker committee to  steer the wheel of the union for three months with the view of conducting another election within the period.

In a statement released by the Senior Assistant National Secretary Gbemiga Bamidele said "consequent upon the disruption of the state delegates conference today at Old Governor's office, press center, Ado Ekiti by some unruly members of the union, the election of the state working committee has been stalemated.

In line with Article 5d of the NUJ constitution, a caretaker committee has been constituted to run the affairs of the union within three months and to conduct a credible election."

The national officials also disbanded the credentials committee. Amos Ogunrinde of FRCN is to head the caretaker committee with Yaqpob Popoola of the Correspondents chapel as secretary.

But in a swift reaction, the aggrieved party which consist largely of the state information chapel and the chapel of the state Broadcasting service also inaugurated a parallel caretaker committee.

There was mild drama at the press conference held by the national officers of the union as the aggrieved led by their chairmanship candidate Rotimi Feyisina stormed the venue and harrased the officials. They aftermath  inaugurated a separate caretaker committee with Adeola Babalola of state information chapel as chairman and Kelechi David of BSES chapel as secretary.
