UNIOSUN Staff Goes Spiritual Against VC In "Labo Must Go" Protest

The crisis rocking the Osun State University between the vice chancellor professor Labo Popoola and the university's Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities SSANU, Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities NASU and the National Association of Academic Technologists NAAT is getting deeper and taking a new twist.

The strike action which started last week Wednesday had the unions asking for the resignation of Professor Labo Popoola.

The bone of contention according to the leadership of the Joint Actions Committee Adiyat Olalekan borders on over taxation of workers, poor funding of the university, non-remittance of pension deduction to pension managers by the school management among other agitations.

"We have given the Vice chancellor 21 day ultimatum. After the 21 day ultimatum, we gave him another 14 day grace to call us and address thus issues but Proffesor Labo Popoola made us know that he is a forest manager and not that of human beings and that is why we are saying he must go" Adiyat submitted.

Entrance to the Osogbo campus of the university was shut by the protesting workers with palm fronds signalling a spiritual warfare with the embattled vice chancellor professor Popoola.

The joint Action Committee of UNIOSUN affirmed that they will be joining the strike action embarked upon by the national leadership but stressed that the national strike will not in any way affect the local strike embarked on by the local chapter.

Speaking further, the representatives of JAC in UNIOSUN says they have been in talks with the the state security apparatus and as such will suspend open protest for the week and resume the protest next week Monday.
