Osun 2018: "PDP Out Of the Woods; APC, Welcome to your crisis period"- Lere Oyewunmi

Shunning lawlessness and portraying good character have been described as one of the core keys of having a strong institution in Nigerian political scene.

Honorable Lere Oyewunmi made this known at the monthly lecture series of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Osun Council, themed ‘Building Strong Institutions; a factor for strong and viable Nigeria’, held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Osogbo.

Hon. Oyewunmi, a former Chairman National Population Commission (NPC) averred that corruption which have become a pattern should also be discarded, adding that Nigeria as a country has good and peculiar institutions which is being hindered by law breakers.

As regard political zoning, towards Osun 2018 election, Lere maintained that zoning is a good pointer embraced by the respective senatorial districts, and that zoning system can make states and Nigeria as a whole to grow.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant stated that PDP is ready for the forthcoming election in Osun and the general election, and that as a governorship aspirant, welfarism with focus on the citizens' immediate need will be made mandatory, adding that he will run a transparent government and also ensure that all sectors of the state is developed for futuristic benefit of all.

He mentioned that Osun PDP is having reconciliation and structuring the party to be all accommodative and inclusive for the success of the forthcoming election, while adding that the party is out of danger zone and ready for successful operation, but that the APC both at state and national level is about to experience what PDP had experienced because it has many int-party fractions, candidate imposition, and disorderliness which is yet to be addressed, while the youths in the party are also clamoring for their voice to be heard.

On inclusion of women in governance for the thirty five percent affirmative, Hon. Lere Oyewunmi hinted that he is ready to work with women in the state of Osun, and he charged them to reciprocate by working beyond sentiment to claim their political right, adding that the affirmative percentage was introduced and honored by a Peoples’ Democratic Party government under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo

He further stated that the present All Progressives Congress government has not in any way honored the thirty five percent affirmation for women inclusion in government, while adding further that PDP will at all times honor and implement the affirmative percentage for women in politics.

Referring to the apology made to Nigerians by the newly elected Osun Peoples Democratic Party Chairman, Hon. Soji Adagunodo at the PDP Congress which held at the weekend in the state capital, Oyewunmi stated that the party is sorry to Nigerians, and that politically it has learnt its lesson and is ready to channel Nigeria to its right course of development in the forthcoming elections.

Earlier in her welcome address, the state Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Osun Council, Mrs. Tunrayo Ayegbayo averred that the program tagged ‘Women World’ had its lectures’ topic chosen to give answers to the numerous challenges facing Nigeria politically.

Similarly in his remark, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists Osun Council, Comrade Abiodun Olalere stated that the program is a good one coming at the necessitated time towards the forthcoming elections, and that Nawoj as a female baby wing of the Nigeria Union of Journalists is set to ensure that citizens of the state are well informed on activities since women are always at the receiving end of every institution in Nigeria.
