Former US President Donald Trump applauded Nigeria over the recent suspension of the operations of Twitter in the country.

Timenews reports that the Nigerian Government had on Friday last week suspended the operation of the microblogging platform for allegedly allowing contents capable of threatening the corporate existence of Nigerians.

Recall that Trump himself was banned from that platform, as well as Facebook, following the deadly Jan. 6 uprising at the U.S. Capitol during an event he used social media to promote.

Trump praised the West African country for banning use of the social media platform after the Twitter suspended the account of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for comparing gunmen attacking national electoral commission offices to the Nigeria Civil War. The company deleted the tweet, saying it violated their abusive behavior policy.

“Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their President. More COUNTRIES should ban Twitter and Facebook for not allowing free and open speech-all voices should be heard,” Trump said in a statement Tuesday.

He added that competitors” would emerge if social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook continue to enforce rules for users.

“Who are they to dictate good and evil if they themselves are evil?” Trump said.

Trump’s statement comes days after Facebook banned him from accessing his social media accounts for two years.
