The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has approved the recommendation of the research products of The Federal Polytechnic Offa to its council for consideration.
This was achieved after the presentation of memorandum by the Polytechnic Director of Research and Innovation, Dr. Grace Korter at 19th Edition of National Council on Science, Technology and Innovation held in Abuja.
The Ministry at its 19th National Council meeting themed: “Investment in Research and Development: a Necessary Tool to Improving Nigerian Economy” had participants from different tertiary institutions, Schools of Sciences and Technology, Research and Development Agencies exhibiting their research breakthroughs.
While presenting the memorandum, Dr. Korter noted some of the Research works and Innovations of The Federal Polytechnic Offa from various departments.
Among the inventions showcased at the exhibition and tendered for approval were: Manual Hand Washing and Sanitizing Machine ( HWSM01, 02, 03 and 04) produced by Mechanical Engineering Department; Solar Powered Automated Fumigator; Solar Powered Sound Wave Actuated Male Pee Toilet System; Hand-Clap Solar Powered Ultraviolet Sanizer System produced by Science Laboratory Technology Department; Yam Peel Ash Sandcrete Block for low housing construction; Waste Nylon and Plastic Bottles Interlocking Paving Stone; Palm Kernel Fibre Tiles produced by Civil Engineering Department and Sweet Potato confectioneries from various sweet potato varieties produced by Food Technology Department.
The Honorable Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu in his address said Nigeria being the first African country to develop Space Science and Technology center is determined to grow the country’s economy to become number one in the world through science and innovation.
He then charged the Universities, Polytechnics and various Institutes of Research and Development to continue to innovate as the Government is ready to give attention to products that are produced in Nigeria against importation of foreign products.
The Minister charged Nigerians to show patriotism and work together to overcome all the challenges facing the country.
“We must develop a new mindset, it is what will make us to be self reliance. We need to demonstrate patriotism for Science and Technology to strive,” he said.
About 15 staff of the Polytechnic were sponsored to the exhibition by the Management led by Dr. Olatunji.
The staff are Dean, School of Engineering Technology, Engr. Adewumi O. Titus, Dean, School of Applied Sciences and Technology, Dr. Azeez Isiaka, HOD, Science Laboratory Technology, Dr. Mrs Haolat Olabisi Ibrahim, HOD Mechanical Engineering, Engr. Samuel O. Ogundele, HOD, Civil Engineering, Engr. Mrs Adedayo Adeyemi.
Others are Engr. Mukaila Abiola Anifowose from Civil Engineering Department, Engr. Yakubu Onimisi Hassan from Mechanical Engineering Department, Mr. Yusuff .I. Moshood from Science Laboratory Technology Department, Mrs Shittu Faizah from Directorate of Research and Innovation among others.
