CSOs To Nass; Suspend Holiday And Review Electoral Bill.

A group of civil society organisations,(CSOs) have called on the National Assembly to cut short its holiday and resume legislative work to conclude on quick passage of the electoral act amendment bill.

Speaking in Abuja, he convener, Kenneth Eze opined that the federal lawmakers can resume for two days to remove contentious clauses raised by president Muhammadu in the bill and adjourn to the scheduled date of 18th January for transmission to the president.

Some political parties however promised to join the CSOs to occupy the national assembly should it fail to quickly carry out legislative action on the bill for Presidential assent.

Last week, president Muhammadu had rejected the bill citing the high cost and security implication on the direct mode of primary election enshrined in the bill as part of the issues raised for failing to append his signature.

The bill if passed, seeks to resolve issues regarding the use of modern technologies in the electoral process and prescribe a particular mode of primary election for political parties to choose candidates seeking elective offices.
