NULGE Warns Over LG Funds Diversion For 2023 Election

The National Union of local government employees, NULGE is raising an alarm over plans to divert local government development funds into campaigns by politicians ahead of 2023 General elections.

President of NULGE, Ambali Akeem who raised the suspicion at a briefing in Abuja, accused the Ruling All Progressives Congress, APC of failing to actualise its much talked about change Mantra in the grassroots.

On the Three hundred million naira President Muhammadu Buhari promised will be disbursed to local Government Areas, NULGE expresses fear that the money is already hijacked by the governors, through the State And Local Government joint account, which is solely controlled by the State Government.

NULGE further argues that apart from financial autonomy, only an Election conduct by INEC into local governments can guarantee the political autonomy of that tier of government, for efficient and impactful development at the grassroot.
