The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the sale of adulterated petroleum across the country.
The decision came following a motion of Urgent National Importance moved by Hon. Muhammed Monguno, Chief Whip of the house of representatives at plenary on Thursday.
The decision by the members of the green chamber to invite the erring importers is to stop the toxic fuel from causing more havoc to vehicles.
While moving the motion, Hon. Hon. Monguno urge NNPC to suspend importer s found to be culpable and called for thorough investigation to be carried out with a view to awarding proper punishment to them.
He said their is need to put in place a credible monitoring and survillance system that will ensure adequate quality petroleum products are imported in the country.
While contributing to the debate federal lawmakers suggested that guilty importers should be be brought to justice as well as compelled to compensate for the damages caused by their action to serve as deterrent.
They also suggest the establishment of modular refineries in the country to carter for shortfall of products in the system..
The house adopted the motion when put to vote by the presiding speaker Idris Wase, Deputy Speaker of the house.
It also resolved to invite the NNPC for more details, mandate the house committee on petroleum resources downstream to investigate the release of adulterated petroleum across the country.
