OAU Model Driving School: It Complements Our Administration’s safety And Security Drive – Oyetola

The Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has commended the establishment of driving school and driver’s license center by the authority of Obafemi Awolowo University, describing it as a vital complement of the resolve of his administration to ensure the security and safety of the people.

He added that the initiave was a testament of the pedigree of the University authorities as a people-oriented and student-friendly management.

Oyetola, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Works and Transport, Engr. Hussein Olatoke Olaniyan, at the official commissioning of the model driving center in Ile-Ife, said the government was quick to approve the application for the establishment of the center because of the benefit it will bring in ensuring security, revenue generation and contribution to entrepreneurial drive of students.

“This initiative is a vital complement of the resolve of our administration to ensure the security and safety of the people.

“The driving skills so acquired would be an integral part of beneficiaries’ tool of trade and an added advantage in their respective future engagements in today’s entrepreneurial world.

“It is also our conviction that the establishment of this driving school and licence center will raise the standards in road usage, and transport index and performance bar in the state.

“There is no doubt that when we get this model initiative right, other Universities will follow suit and the revolution for ensuring the integrity of our transportation system and sanitising our licencing system would have commenced from the Great Ife”, Oyetola stated.

He urged the University authority to ensure maintenance standard of the center for effective output, while also appealing to the operators of the centre to uphold best practices.

He continued: ” I appeal to the officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the staff of the driving school to ensure that best practices in driving and collection of driver’s licence are observed so that the purpose of establishing this initiative would be fully realised.

” I thank the Federal Road Safety Corps for providing the personnel, facilities and logistics for the take-off of the operation of the Driver’s Licence Center. I also appreciate the Ministry of Works for giving expeditious treatment for the take off of this initiative and for providing the necessary logistics for the establishment of the driving school”, Oyetola added.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, in his remarks, appreciated Governor Oyetola’s visionary leadership.

He said the University authorities will ensure that the center is maintained through best practices, in order to for it to measure up with international standard and to serve as a model for other Universities in the country.
