NANS Protest Alleged Police Attacks On Students

Students under the Umbrella of the National Association of Nigerian Students NANS have staged a peaceful protest against an alleged police brutality of its members across all higher institutions in Nigeria.

The placards carrying students led by the Vice President (external affairs) NANS, Afolabi Aguda Tuesday afternoon took to some major streets in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, to show their grievances against what they called “incessant harassment” of Nigerian students by the police.

The police according to the students has deviated from its constitutional duty of enforcing law and protecting lives and property of the Nigerian masses to assaulting them.

“It is unfortunate that the Nigerian Police Force has deviated from its duty of preserving and enforcing laws, rather, it has been an Agency flouting the rule of law at the detriment of Nigerian Students, workers and the masses generally”

The students also berated police for the way and manners they claimed protests and demonstrations in Nigerians are being handled.

“There is no doubt that the Nigerian police force is under some pressure from the ruling political elite to be infringing on the rights of the Nigerian people in denying them the opportunity of showing their dissatisfaction on the unfavorable policies of government of the day. It is very much obvious that the power of the NPF
have been hijacked by the government of the day in serving their own personal interest over that of the masses that voted them into power. It is the height of illegality and abuse of office on the part of the government of the day to always disregard the rights of the people that voted them”

The students have vowed to march to the Abuja headquarters of the NPF, should their grievances not addressed on time “If the killings, Harassment and extortion of our students do no stop, over 40.1million Nigerians are set to storm the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters”
