The mere mention of Festac to Lagosians and non-lagosians alike always bring the nostalgic feeling of the cultural festival held in Nigeria in 1977.
Since then, Festac has being synonymous with an urbane setting where every thing metropolitan can be found and seen. And this affected not only the main festal town, but also all adjoining towns and settlements which are mostly riverine areas.
This however is no more the case, as Festac is now a ghost of its former self. Falling to Amuwo-Odofin local council, this area has not only being found wanting socially but politically too. And in addressing this ugly trend, stakeholders of the council being led by the Obas and youth groups say it’s time to team up for the progress of Amuwo-Odofin thus forming a socio-political pressure group.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chairman of the group, His Royal Highness,
Oba Mobadenle Oyekan, the Onilado of Ilado and Inagbe Island said the aim of forming the pressure group was to foster friendly relationship among the people of Amuwo Odofin and its environs.
To the monarch, there is no way Amuwo Odofin and its environs can experience development except there is peace in the zone.
In the words of the monarch “We have gathered here today to bring the people of Amuwo Odofin and its environs together, this group will leave nothing to chance in ensuring that what is due to the people of Amuwo Odofin and its environs get to them.”
Present at the inauguration ceremony were representatives of different ethnic groups, students, religious leaders and royal fathers who all promised to work for the betterment of Amuwo Odofin while the bar of the pressure is said to be “Asiwaju Unity Forum”.
