The leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists,(NUJ) has disclosed its preparedness to flush out fake professionals from media industry ,as it is set to commence biometric registration of members across the country and diaspora.
The National Secretary of the union,Shuaibu Usman Leman made the disclosure in a notice made available to Dailydispatch , assuring that the exercise will take off in the first quarter of this year.
The notice also added that the registration is meant for journalists wiithin and outside the country, stating that they are expected to complete the registration online.
‘The NUJ national biometric registration is scheduled to take off in the first quarter of April 2017. All Journalists in Nigeria and the diaspora are expected to go online and register’,Leman said,
The scribe added further that the exercise has nothing to do with the manual registration earlier done,stressing the biometric is a must, as new numbers will be allocated.
‘After registration members will be given a reference number to enable them make a payment of N3,500 only to the bank before the next step of biometrics and issuance of ID card that will be valid for three years’,he stated.
The notice further emphasised that, biometrics will be done zone by zone while states may wish to arrange biometrics for their respect states if the proposed timetable does not meet their expectations.
The union leadership posited further the state councils are advised to brief their members accordingly ‘even as we update you all of its take off, please’.
