Gunmen Abduct Ondo Permanent Secretary Near Abuja

The permanent secretary of the Ondo State Hospital Management Board, Niran Ikuomola, has been kidnapped.
His abductors have called the family of their victim to demand a ransom of N70 million.
Mr. Ikuomola and driver were taken captive by yet-to-be identified gunmen Sunday evening along Lokoja/Abuja expressway.
They were on their way to Abuja for an official assignment when their vehicle was ambushed by gunmen.
The secretary of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Ondo State, Roland Arohunmolase, confirmed the incident in Akure on Monday.
He said that one of the kidnappers called to inform Mr. Ikuomola’s family about the kidnap, asking for the sum of N70 million as ransom.
“Dr. Ikuomola was abducted yesterday (Sunday) with his driver on the Lokoja -Abuja road while on his way to Abuja for an official function,” Mr. Arohunmolase said.
“The kidnappers have contacted us this morning (Monday) by demanding for the sum of N70 million before he could be released to his family.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ondo State, Femi Joseph, could not confirm the incident, saying since it occurred in Kogi State, he would expect the police at the area concerned to handle the case.
“I’m not yet aware, although, it is outside our jurisdiction but I’m sure some of our colleagues (police) in Kogi state would have taken prompt action on it,” he said.
