The Minister of Communication Adebayo Shittu has disclosed that a university of Information, communication and Technology will soon be established in Nigeria.
The minister made the disclosure at an Ife Youth economic summit theme of the summit is “ICT’ as a formidable tool for Nigeria’s Economic Rejuvenation and Massive Job Creation” In Ile-ife, Osun state.
Information and Communication Technology ICT is no doubt a veritable tool for economic development in any society.
Most African countries are deprived of the chance to grow economically unlike their counterparts in the western world, largely due to scarcity of ICT and limited internet connectivity.
This challenge, the minister of communication Adebayo Shittu at an Economic summit in ife, says Nigeria is already making strategic moves to tackle.
Represented by Mr Olufemi Olufeko, the minister explained that Nigeria is leveraging on ICT for rejuvenation of its precarious economy.
“The ministry is leveraging on ICT for rejuvenation of the Nigeria’s economy as well as encouraging massive online job creation through the implementation of various initiatives like: A university of ICT will soon be established. Amicable solutions on right of way crisis and enactment of cybercrime Act to mention a few. Digital Job Nigeria where 28,800 unemployed youths nominees across various states of the federation, were trained on online, among others.
He stated that the Buhari led government places much importance on youth development and massive job creation using ICTs.
” The Buhari administration places much importance on youth development and massive job creation using ICTs. The Ministry also recognizes the fact that our youths are cardinal members of the internet ecosystem. Therefore the Ministry is strategically inclined to bringing up initiatives to cater for the interest of our youth population and working closely with the various partners at national, regional, and global levels to ensure massive youth employment while fast-tracking the rejuvenation of our national economy “
Also speaking, the chairman Senate committee on science and technology senator Ajayi Boroffice empahsised the need for all to be ICT compliant.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, admonished every Nigerian youth to take advantage of the many opportunities in ICT.

A total of 200 youths across the state will according to the faciliator of the summit Olamide Awosunle be trained in various fields of information and communication Technology.
