The Lagos State House of Assembly, made history on Tuesday, July 18, as the lawmakers amended the electoral law ahead of the forthcoming local government election in the state.
The first, second and third reading of the state electoral law were taken today and the amended law unanimously passed.
The electoral law is expected to pave the way for list of candidates to be submitted and admitted by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), three days to election date.
The amended law has been forwarded to the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode for speedy assent.
The Lagos state council election will take place in all the local government areas in the state on Saturday, July 22, 2017.
Meanwhile, fracas ensued at a fresh primaries conducted for Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA as some aspirants were barres from participating in the primaries.
Hakeem Saka, APC aspirant in Odi-Olowo who dragged APC to court and won the case against imposition was allegedly beaten and stripped when he protested exclusion from the emergency primaries organized by Afikuyomi-led APC Electoral Committee.
Hakeem Saka and his supporters were reportedly attacked by suspected thugs of the opposing camps when they protested exclusion from the emergency primaries organized by the Tokunbo Afikuyomi led Electoral Committee in Odi-Olowo. They were also denied entrance into the venue and were attacked with dangerous weapons including machetes.
The accelerated amendment was allegedly done by the Lagos state house of assembly in order to accommodate the changes made by the ruling All Progressives Congress in the list of its candidates for the Saturday July 22nd poll
