Trending: Appeal Court Acquits Ex-Governor Bala Ngilari

A Court of Appeal sitting in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, on Thursday, July 20, discharged and acquitted former governor of the state, Bala Ngilari

Justice Ambrose Mamadi of the state division of the High Court had earlier sentenced Mr. Ngilari to five (5) years imprisonment for violating due process in the procurement of 25 units of vehicles during his tenure as governor.

The court, presided by Justice Olayomi Folashade, quashed all charges against Mr. Ngilari for lack of merit and sufficient proof of allegations against him.

On March 6, a Yola High Court sentenced Mr. Ngilari to five years in prison without the option of fine on charges of financial fraud.

He was jailed for not following due process in the purchase of 25 vehicles at the cost of N169 million.

Mr. Ngilari was charged alongside two of his former aides, Secretary to the State Government and Commissioner of Finance by the anti-graft agency, EFCC.

The court, however, acquitted the two aides for lack of sufficient proof.
