Just In: PSC Demotes Lagos, Kogi Acting CPs

The Police Service Commission (PSC), has reversed Acting Commissioners of Police in Lagos and Kogi state to their old ranks, Nigeria’s burgeoning online integrated media platform, ALEDEH can report.
Edgal Imohimi is the Acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos state, while Ali Janga is the Kogi state Acting Commissioner of Police.
The letter dated October 8,2017, obtained byALEDEH and titled: Withdrawal of Acting Appointment: AP:25095 Mohimi D. Edgal And AP. 36665 Aji Ali Janga, read in part: “Our letter with  Ref, No. PS/1924/COL. IX/ dated 22nd August,2017 conveying the Honourable Chairman’s anticipatory approval for the placement of the above-named officers as Acting Commissioners of Police refers, please.
“The Commission, at its 24th Plenary Meeting of 27th and 28th September, 2017 took a decision not to ratify the anticipatory approval.
“The Officers are, therefore, reverted to their substantive rank of Deputy Commisioner of Police (DCP).
“Please, accept the assurances of the Commission’s high esteem”, the letter read.
ALEDEH also gathered that the approval in the first instance was unilaterally given by the chairman that’s why the letter used the term “anticipatory”. We also gathered that another list of hundreds of officers was also returned by the commission to the police to justify why they made the list. Also about five others who were given special appointments at that time as commissioners of police were recognized as acting CPs as the Commission is yet to confirm them.
The reversion of the Acting Police Commissioners by the PSC is coming eighteen (18) days after ALEDEH uncovered theskewed promotion in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in our Exclusive story titled: ”Promotion Fraud In The Nigerian Police Plus Those “Controlling” The IGP“, which was published September 22, 2017.
We had reported that two commissioners of police, Ali Janga and  Garuba Umar, currently holding state commands in Kogi and Anambra states do not deserve the position.
ALEDEH had also reported that most special promotions in the Nigeria Police Force are now being purchased and not merited as Ali Janga’s promotion was based on favouritism.
In our Exclusive story, we revealed that Ali Janga was an Assistant Commissioner of Police last year, the same year he was promoted from ACP to Deputy Commissioner of Police and from DCP to Commissioner of Police in the last six months without carrying out any special assignment that should warrant the promotion.
ALEDEH had also reported that a certain “Barrister Emmanuel“, an alleged Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on legal matters who is based in Maryland, Lagos state, Nigeria’s commercial city and referred to as the “defacto IG” in Lagos, was instrumental in the posting of Edgal as Lagos state Commissioner of Police.
“Barr. Emma decides who becomes DPO Anthony in Lagos and if such does not dance to his tune, the person gets transferred. The case of a woman SP posted to Borno state is still there. The posting of Edgal as CP Lagos is the handiwork of Emma”, a source toldALEDEH.
ALEDEH had also revealed in our exclusive that there is an ongoing speedy rise of some junior officers in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) who are said to be having an amorous relationship with the police boss.
In our September 22, 2017, exclusive, we reported the case of a policewoman called Amina, who was promoted from a police corporal to the rank of ASP within a year. Our sources say she’s a very close ally of the police boss.
Thirteen (13) days after our exclusive,Senator Misau opened can worms against the Inspector General of Police.
Raising through order 43, Misau, a former Police officer explained during Wednesday’s plenary of the 8th Senate that he was attacked by the Inspector General of Police because he revealed corrupt activities under the current IGP, while the Senate was on recess.
Senator Misau also disclosed that the IG was in extramarital affairs with one Amina and another Asta but eventually wedded Asta secretly in Kaduna after being impregnated.
“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, instead of the IGP to address the issues I raised in my capacity as the Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he was busy attacking me”, he said during plenary.
“As a former Police officer, I can say authoritatively that it is wrong for an officer to have a relationship with a female Police officer because of the nature of that work”, Misau insisted.
The lawmaker also faulted the manner which promotion of officers was being handled by the current IGP of Police, adding that officers pay as much as N500,000 to get promoted, affirming ALEDEH’s exclusive.
Following the series of allegations of massive corruption in the Nigerian Police under IGP Idris’ leadership, the Police Service Commission (PSC), has said that it has no power to investigate the Police IG.
The matter then falls on the desk of President Buhari. Nigerians and members of the Nigerian Police are waiting to see how he acts in this case and many more. This and others no doubt, are a test case for an administration whose cardinal aim is to fight corruption.
