The Government of Osun State today has accused opposition party of sponsoring Plank Sellers Association of Irewole and Isokan for stagging protest
against the government.
The government made this accusation through special adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Forestry and Natural Resources, Prince Tunde Ajilore in a press conference held in Osogbo.
Prince Tunde said the protest held by the plank sellers on Thursday was an attempt to blackmail his office, staff of the ministry and All Progressive Congress as a party.
Speaking on the duty of the Ministry of Forestry and Natural Resources of Osun he said ” Our primary responsibility is to mobilize revenue for the state in order to boost the state internal generated revenue (IGR) “
He noted that the ministry has never subjected the plank sellers to double taxation as been claimed which was to mislead the public saying their ” Charge is in consonance with the laws on revenue generation “.
He futher said that the intention of the plank sellers was not based on cooperation with the government but to call a dog a bad name stressing “We have set up series of peace meetings with the plank sellers in their region which at the end they vasilate and default”.
The SA however, disclosed that the government have temporary closed forest reserve of Irewole and Isokan area, warned that the government will not hesitate to punish who forces himself into the forest so as ” to allow for more rubost negotiation and peaceful resolution on the issue.
