Ethiopia’s Sintayehu Legese wins 2019 Lagos City Marathon, bags $50,000

The fourth edition of the annual Lagos City marathon has been won by Ethiopia’s Sintayehu Lesesse as he bags the $50,000 prize money.

The race, which took place on Saturday, kicked off in the early hours of the day from the National Stadium in Surulere and the finish line at Eko Atlantic City.
Legese won the competition with a time of 2:17.26.
Legesse overtook Joshua Kipkorir of Kenya with less than one Kilometre to the finishing line.
Running one minute behind the Ethiopian made a late push to displace Kipkorir as the athletes approached the end of the 42 kilometre race at the Eko Atlantic City.
Legesse won the race in a time of two hours, 17 minutes and 28 seconds.
Joshua who won the Singapore Marathon just two months ago came in second with a time of two hours 18 minutes and 16 seconds.
While another Kenyan William Yegon came third in two hours 19 minutes and four seconds.
