BREAKING: Lagos Begins Demolition Of Defective Buildings In Lagos

Lagos State government, through the Lagos State Building Control Agency, on Friday morning commenced the demolition of defective buildingswithin Lagos Island.

This is coming barely 48 hours after a three storey building which came down on Wednesday, killing about fifteen persons was reported to have been marked for demolition several months ago, but was still occupied until it caved in.

Our correspondent, Abimbola Agbebiyi reports that the agency’s task force began with the demolition of a three-storey building on 60A Freeman Street, Epetedo.

According to the General Manager of LASBCA, Lekan Shodeinde, about 180 houses will be demolished in the exercise. He said 20 would be demolished on Friday.

The demolition is coming on the heels of Wednesday building collapse on Massey Street, Ita Faaji, Lagos Island, which killed many pupils and injured others.

The agency said the property owners had been served several notices dating back to 2013.
