Newly elected Senators and House Of Representative members, have received their certificates of return from the independent National electoral
commission.
INEC is requesting that the federal lawmakers consider an amendment of the electoral act and also make laws to improve Nigeria’s electoral process.
Source reports that as the newly-elected lawmakers exchange pleasantries, they can now heave a sigh of relieve after a grueling electioneering period. Receiving their certificates of return puts a stamp on their election.
The chairman of the independent national electoral commission already looks forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with the lawmakers,
especially with regards to the review of the electoral act.
The 9th national assembly will have an interesting mix of first timers and Old timers and also an influx of governors transitioning to lawmakers.
But one prominent feature of the outgoing 8th National assembly is the seeming frosty relationship with the executive arm of government and this
rubbed off on governance in the country.
After the formality of collecting their certificate of return, the battle moves to the floor of the hallowed chamber.
Lawmakers have already begun intense lobbying and horse trading to determine the leadership of the National assembly.
The All Progressives Congress will most likely produce all the officers of the legislature this time around as the party hangs on to the majority
in the National Assembly.
