Precious Owolabi’s Death, A Sad Day For Journalism – NUJ

The Nigeria Union of Journalists has described the death of Precious Owolabi, a youth corp member attached to Channels Television in Abuja, as one death too many.

The FCT chapter of the union also described Precious Owolabi’s demise as another sad day for journalism in Nigeria.

It said the federal government must demonstrate its seriousness in addressing insecurity by finding an amicable resolution to the grievances of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria to avoid more deaths.

The statement released by the union reads: ”The death of Precious Owolabi signifies how brutish and short life has become in Nigeria and signposts the danger faced by journalists daily in carrying out the constitutional mandate of holding government and its officials accountable to Nigerians.”

”The federal government should take responsibility for the senseless death of Mr Owolabi as it was its constitutional duty to safeguard his welfare and security as well as those of other Nigerians,” the statement ended.
