Xenophobic Attacks: FG will push for accountability, compensation for Affected Persons who suffered losses – Minister

The minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has promised that the federal government will push for accountability and compensation for Nigerians that suffered losses in South Africa.

He disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday during a press briefing with the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby Moroe over the continued xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa.

Onyeama added that while the Nigerian government believes that criminality knows no bound, it condemns the frequent attacks on Nigerians in diaspora, including South Africa, and will do everything to protect her citizenry.

On his part, the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby Moroe, said at least 70 suspects have been arrested in connection with the ugly incidents, but cautioned against escalation of the incidents by those sharing different videos in circulation.

Moroe however promised that the South African High Commission will  be meeting with the students leaders in the country to prevent reprisals.
