Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki
A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has struck out a suit seeking to restrain Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, from participating in the Edo State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election.
Another governorship aspirant, Omoregie Igbeide-Ihama, through his lawyers, Donald Denwigwe (SAN) and Chief F. Orbih, SAN, had prayed the court to stop Obaseki because his defection to the party, a few days to the primary, was “unreasonable and aimed at destabilising other aspirants.”
But on Wednesday, he withdrew the suit following an out-of-court settlement which involved PDP leaders.
Justice E.O. Obile commended the parties for settling out of court, adding that it was the proper thing to do.

Earlier, Justice Obile granted a stand down prayer to allow the parties to the suit conclude a reconciliatory meeting initiated by party leaders.
The counsel for the respondents – Emmanuel Enoidem, Higher King, Alex Ejesiema, and M. E. Ani – did not object to the prayer for a stand down to allow parties to settle.
The primary election is less than 24 hours away.
Obaseki joined the PDP following his disqualification from participating in the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over “defective” certificates.
