Insecurity: Senate Calls for the Dismissal of Service Chiefs

The Senate has called for the sack of Nigeria’s service chiefs as the country continues to battle with security challenges.

The four service chiefs include Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Marshal Ibok- Ete Ibas.

Senators called for the dismissal of the service chiefs during plenary on Tuesday in reaction to a motion by Senator Ali Ndume.

The senator representing APC, Borno South spoke under the Order 42(1) of the Senate Standing Orders as Amended.

In his presentation, Ndume lamented the high level of casualties among the rank and file of the Military and other Security Agencies where over 21 Soldiers were ambushed in Gamboa in Borno State and also in Katsina.

According to the Senator, it is worrying that soldiers were ambushed recently in Katsina with several of them killed as well as allegations of unprecedented voluntary retirement of over 200 soldiers.

He said if the trend continues, it will be bring trouble on the country.

Despite his concerns about the security situation, Senator Ndume did not call for the dismissal of the service chiefs.

The call for their dismissal was an additional prayer to his motion in the course of deliberations.
