President Muhammadu Buhari has received the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate corruption allegations levelled against Acting Chairman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

The president received the report at the council chamber of the presidential villa in Abuja on Friday.

Recall that Buhari constituted the panel in July after Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, levelled “22 weighty allegations of corruption” against Magu.

The commission led by retired Justice Ayo Salami has been investigating the activities of EFCC under the leadership of the suspended Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu.

This follows allegations of corruption and misconduct among others. The allegations were raised by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

In a memo sent to the president in June, Malami recommended the EFCC’s boss dismissal.

He anchored his recommendation on several grounds “ranging from diversion of recovered loot to insubordination and misconduct” by Magu.

In July, Buhari approved Magu’s suspension and appointed Mohammed Umar as the acting EFCC chairman pending the conclusion of the investigation by the presidential panel.

In August, the panel reportedly sent an interim report to the president recommending Magu’s sack.

On Friday, Chairman of the Judicial Commission, Justice Ayo Salami, presented the panel’s final report to Buhari at the council chamber of the presidential villa in Abuja.
