APC clears all Local Government Seats in Kano polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the 44 local government chairmanship seats and 484 councillorship seats in Kano state after the elections held on Saturday.

This according to declaration made by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).

Only 12 political parties fielded candidates out of the 18 registered in the country.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Garba Ibrahim Sheka, a professor and chairman of Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), said certificates of return will be given to the winners on Monday.

While commending Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano governor, for not interfering with the process, Sheka said 2,350,577 voted in the election out of five million registered voters.Advertisement

“I am happy that nobody, not even a chicken, was feared dead in the election. At least, the election was 89 percent successful,” the professor said.

“Security agents were everywhere to ensure voters maintained law and order.”

Speaking with reporters after he voted at Dawakin Kudu, his ward, Ganduje expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the polls.

“I am impressed by how people came out to vote peacefully,” the governor said.

“It showed the election has been accepted by all the people of Kano state. And this gives us confidence, especially as we don’t believe in a caretaker committee to be managing the local government councils.

“Thus, we must have elected officials to manage the affairs of our 44 local government areas.”
