COVID-19: Nigeria records 21 deaths, toll now 1,607

COVID-19 cases and deaths are surging in Africa as new, more contagious variants of the virus spread.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has reported 676 new coronavirus infections in the country.

The health agency disclosed this via its verified Twitter account on Monday night.

The centre also confirmed the nation recorded 21 deaths, bringing the current fatality toll to 1,607.

NCDC disclosed that Lagos recorded the highest toll with 227 cases, followed by Rivers, 73.
