FG begins deployment process of 5G Technology

Federal government has concluded plans to commence the deployment of 5G technology.

This followed the successful signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU between the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, on Wednesday with the Nigerian Communications Satellite, Nigcomsat on the clearing of C-band frequency for deployment of 5G services.

Under the agreement, NIGCOSAT is committing about 160Megs of C-band from which government will generate revenue from the sales to service providers through the NCC.

The MoU, according to the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, has the blessing of the National Frequency Management Council, NFMC which is chaired by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami.

At the signing, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Professor Adeolu Akande said “Telecommunication evolution from inception to date has led to improvement in user experience witnessed from 2G, 3G and later 4G. The global impact of 4G brought about increases in mobile usage and network performance.

“5G will build on this momentum, bringing substantial network improvements, including higher connection speeds, mobility and capacity, as well as low-latency capabilities.

“5G does not only offer enhanced broadband and ultra-reliable latency communications but also provides massive machine type communications, where a lot of devices will seamlessly connect and independently interact with the internet without human intervention”. – Prof Akande further stated.
