BREAKING: Fiorentina Manager quits 23 Days after Appointment

Fiorentina’s new manager Gennaro Gattuso has left his position just 23 days after joining the club.

According to reports, Gattuso quitted the job because of a disagreement over transfer strategies.

On May 25, La Viola announced Gattuso’s appointment, just two days after his departure from Napoli, following the end of the 2020/21 Serie A campaign.

A Fiorentina statement read,
“ACF Fiorentina and Mister Rino Gattuso, by mutual agreement, have decided not to follow up on the previous agreements and therefore not to start the next football season together.

“The company immediately set to work to identify a technical choice that will guide the Viola team towards the results that Fiorentina and the City of Florence deserve.”

Fiorentina are unhappy with the “unacceptable situation” regarding Gattuso’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina had targetted two of Mendes’ clients (FC Porto midfielder Sergio Oliveira and Valencia winger Goncalo Guedes) for the summer.

The departure of the Italian has increased the pressure on Viola’s U.S. owner Rocco B. Commisso who has witnessed five managerial changes in just two seasons, which yielded the club, 10th, and 13th-place finishes.

Gattuso joined Sion to kickstart his managerial career in 2013, he moved to Greece and later joined Italian lower leagues, before he was appointed Milan boss in 2017 and took over at Napoli in 2019.
