Ekiti 2022: MOB Declares Interest For Governorship Seat

As the gubernatorial primaries for the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State draws nearer, new entrants are now throwing their hats into the ring.

A member of the National Assembly representing Ekiti Central at the Senate, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele on Thursday also declared his interest to contest the 2022 Governorship election in Ekiti State flying the All Progressives Congress flag.

MOB as he is fondly called was accompanied to the party Secretariat by his political associates ,friends and supporters.

At the party secretariat in Aod Ekiti while addressing the party’s executive, MOB declared that he is ready to contest to clinch the party’s ticket for the 2022 governorship poll in the state.

Reacting to the rumour making the rounds that a particular aspirant had been endorsed by Governor Kayode Fayemi. MOB said the governor is seen as a father of all and will not endorse any candidate for the sake of party’s unity.

Responding, the party Chairman, Barrister Paul Omotoso commended the lawmaker for taking the bold step towards serving his people.

Omotoso maintained that the party will provide a level playing ground for all Aspirants during the party’s primary election in January.

Michael Opeyemi Bamidele is not new in Ekiti politics. He slugged it out with Governor Kayode Fayemi during his second term bid in 2014. Opeyemi Bamidele defected from the then APC to contest under Labour Party. This development contributed to the loss of Kayode Fayemi and ushered in former governor Ayo Fayose of the PDP. This fallout caused a rift between the two erstwhile friends.

Fayemi coming back in 2018 however had the blessing of people like MOB which paved way for MOB’s senatorial ambition coming to fruition. Opeyemi Bamidele however had never hidden his interest in leading the state someday, an ambition he is giving it all to achieve.
