The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, the Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye and the Chief Imam, Adebayo Central Mosque, Ado Ekiti, Alhaji Abdulfatah Abdulazeez have tasked Nigerians to desist from patronizing diabolic persons in the quest to survive or get rich.
The clerics who spoke during an interdenominational prayers organized by members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, affirmed that the current rise in criminal activities, such as killings and kidnapping was due to desperation among Nigerians who visit diabolic clerics to seek for help.
The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, the Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye who was represented by Rev, Father Anthony Ijasan, explained that only God gives wealth, urging Nigerians to have faith in Him and desist from ungodly activities.
Rev. Ijasan took his short exhortation from 1 John 3:22 where he said that God is ready to take care of the needs of everyone irrespective of the situation urging them to be contented with what ever they have.
On his part, the Chief Imam of Adebayo Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdulfatah Abdullazeez admonished both the Muslim and Christian faithful to remain steadfast in their respective faith and not serve another god.
He urged people to love one another just as God has shown love to every creature.
According him, people should stop patronizing fake prophets and ritualists who will advise them to fetch human skulls just to make fortune or glory.
He said such activities were great sins before Allah and will attract punishment.
The cleric equally advocated better welfare packages for journalists in view of their roles in nation building and the hazards attached to the profession.
Earlier, the chairman of NUJ, Ekiti State Council, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela said the prayer was to seek the favour and protection of God over every member and the council in the new year.
Present at the prayer were the VP Zone B of NUJ Com. Ronke Samo and the former chairmen of the Council, Akogun Tai Oguntayo and High Chief Laolu Omosilade.
Highlights of the programme was special prayers for the council, the state, and the country in general.
