Members of Nigeria’s house of representatives on Wednesday disagreed with their counterpart in the senate over the inclusion of “a consensus mode of primaries” in the reintroduced electoral act amendment bill.
The house arrived at this decision afte several deliberations and rowdy session where lawmakers were heard in the background chanting “no to consensus mode of primaries”
The lawmakers after consideration of the report adopted direct or indirect primaries as a mode of electing candidates by political parties.
A member of the house, Awaji Abiante further called the attention of his colleagues to other drafting errors in the bill, asking that the house should at plenary consider them.
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila immediately ruled him out of order insisting that, those errors will be looked at by the technical committee.
