Stop Wearing Our Uniform For Campaign- Army Warns Yahaya Bello, Other Politicians

The Defence Headquarters has noticed with dismay the habit of wearing military uniforms by some politicians for electioneering campaign posters.

The Acting Director Defence Information Air Commodore WAP MAIGIDA says, campaign posters of some Governors, dressed in military camouflage uniforms, are displayed in their respective states.

This, the Acting Director Defence Information noted is illegal and an abuse of the privilege of allowing civilians wear military uniforms during military training exercises.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria, as a professional institution, remains apolitical and would not want to be dragged into any form of political bias.”

The statement advise politicians to desist from the use of military uniforms for political events and other engagements, stressing that anyone found culpable would be liable to prosecution.

It would be recalled that the picture of Kogi state governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello wearing a camouflage as campaign poster flooded the media space and his native Kogi state few days ago.

The governor had been pushing his interest in becoming Nigerian president come 2023.
