The management of Obafemi Awolowo Ile Ife has maintained that the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of the university does not affect academic activities in the university.
The Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olanrewaju who disclosed this while speaking with AIT stated that lectures are ongoing in the institution, despite the strike.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, OAU branch had embarked on an indefinite strike for more than a week now.
According to the branch Chairman of the Union, Adeola Egbedukun the strike was due to lack of serious commitment on the part of the University regarding payment of Earned Academic Allowance to deserving members
The Union noted that the Vice-Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife has refused to do the needful for the Academic staff of the institution adding that the VC is promoting an unregistered union to disrupt payment of the allowance
Reacting to the allegation, the PRO of the university, Abiodun Olanrewaju stated that it was ASUU that is not ready to cooperate with the university on the payment of the EAA
Olanrewaju however disclosed that the ongoing strike has not affected students as other union members are still engaging them in their lectures.
