APC National Convention: Buhari Calls For Unity As Adamu Sworn-in As National Chairman

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be united and also support the newly sworn in leadership of the party.

The president said this at the Eagle Square, Abuja, venue of the National Convention of the party where Sen. Abdulahi Adamu emerged as the party National Chairman through a concensus arrangement.

The president Muhammadu Buhari while urging members of the party to be strong and united said the Convention is coming at a crucial time when the party is preparing for another round of general election.

He enjoined the new NWC members to promote internal democracy, equal opportunities and also ensure that the coming party primaries is not influenced by highest bidders going into the 2023 elections.

Also the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo lauded the founding members of the party for forming a political party that dislodged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after sixteen years in power.

Osinbajo congratulated all those who made the formation possible stating that the party was a product of ideas from opposition members.

The president of the Senate Ahmad Lawan and the speaker of the house of representatives Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila lauded the president for his role in ensuring Executive/Legislature harmony.

They also hailed the President’s commitment to the implementation and completion of projects across the six geopolitical zones and particularly the second Niger bridge in the South East.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu emerged as the national chairman of the party after he was endorsed by concensus by delegates at the convention along with other new NEC members and this is coming about a year and nine months after the Adams Oshiomhole led National Working Committee (NWC) was sacked.

Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State announced Adamu as the winner of the contest after he was endorsed by party members and leaders at the convention via a voice vote.

Senator Adamu went into the election as a consensus candidate following the withdrawal of other aspirants from the contest.

Also elected through consensus are Emma Enukwu from Enugu State as the Deputy National Chairman, South., Abubakar Kyari – Deputy National Chairman (North) and Otunba Iyiola Omisore – National Secretary among others.

All the consensus candidates were confirmed through voice vote at the convention.
