ASUU: Protest Rocks Osun, As NLC Demands Full Implementation Of Members Request

Labour Unions in Osun state on Tuesday has joined their counterparts across the country in a nationwide protest, calling on the federal government to resolve the standstill between her and the Academic Staff Union of Universities without any  delay.

The organised labour, joined by other various Associations, moved across vital places in Osogbo, Osun state capital, displaying placards that conveyed different messages bordering on issues affecting Universities management, and citizens in general.

They moved from Ogo-oluwa area, singing solidarity songs to amplify their voices as they surged along the road down to the state house of assembly.

The Unions later terminated the protest at governor’s office in Osogbo.

Among their demands, they called on the federal government to acknowledge agreement reached with ASUU and implement same in a record time, not only for the benefit of the lecturers and students but also for all citizens.

While Speaking, vice chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress in osun state, Gbadebo Awotayo said the nation’s education sector has deteriorated due to the incessant strike, calling on the federal government to fulfil its agreement to the universities workers in the interest of all

 

Also speaking, chairman of Nigeria Union of journalists in the state, Wasiu Ajadosu noted that the unions are not only protesting the lingering ASUU strike but also registering displeasure on other issues affecting the country.

They all noted that the protest will continue until the government listen to the yearnings of Nigerian students who are unnecessarily being delayed in their academic pursuit.
