Osun 2022: EFCC Arraigns 3 APC, 1 PDP Members For Alleged Vote Buying

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, October 24, 2022, arraigned 3 All Progressivess Congress (APC) and 1 People Democratic Party (PDP) members on a thre-count charge bordering on conspiracy, bribery and Vote buying before Justice Matthais of the Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun.

TimeNewsNg Reports that during the July 16 Governorship election in Osun State, members of the top political parties were arrested for selling and buying of votes.

 

In his ruling today, justice Mathias granted both parties bail of 2 Million naira and one Surety each, including a Level 13 civil servant residing in Osun State.

 

The Counsel for EFCC prepared the charge for arraignment according to Section 212 of the Electoral Act 2022.

 

According to Counsel to the Defendants, Barrister Abdulfatai Sambo, he Said, ‘The defendents today were arraigned before the court in respect of alleged vote buying. The charges were read to them and they have plead guilty. We’ve applied for their bail application and ready to come to conclusion.’

 

They were moved from Ilorin where they’ve been detained for 16 days and were granted bail today under Section 158 of the Criminal Justice Law.

 

The case has been adjourned to the 21st and 28th of November 2022.

 

Barrister Olashina Tony, the Council for EFCC commented on the arraignment saying ‘We were compiling enough evidence for the Court not to grant the bail application. However, we’re ready for trail and our witness are willing and eager to testify’
