Osun LGA Election: Wildspread Of Political Apathy – Reports

TimeNewsNg Reports that Osun local government election conducted by Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), on Saturday witnessed low turnout in various parts of the state capital Osogbo.

According to timenewsng reporter, few people have come out to vote in all polling units visited without any hiccups, Contrary to the rumors that there could be violence as regards the election.

According to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Adeleke Adebayo, in Ward 11 unit 4, Iree Boripe Local government, he said “The election is quite impressive; the queue is quite long and this shows people of the community and Osun in general appreciates the fact that the state government under the leadership of Governor Oyetola is conducting the local government election. It has been peaceful so far and this nullifies the rumor that they’ll be chaos in the election. There’ll only be chaos if people don’t want what you’re doing.”

“This is acceptable to the people of the community as this election is peaceful. I am grateful that we’re doing this and within the next week, we’d have brand new chairman and councilors to the 69 local government in Osogbo.”

“The people expect the very best from the coming officers. They’ve been assured the best by the representatives of the parties and all hopes are kept up.”

‘From the coming officers, we expect the best from them. They have been elected. They’re not going to be the appointed types we’ve had in the past. Once you’re elected by the people, you have to be responsible to the people. So people expect so much from them and I can assure you that the caliber of people by the party has picked to represent them at all levels will give people the best.’

Residents of the visited local government  attested to the fact that the election process has been going smoothly and people have voted for their candidate of choice.

Chief Oguntunde Aderemi, the Olu of Ajoda said “The turnout is a bit low but we’re still expecting more people to come out to vote.”

Governor Oyetola commends the work of OSIEC and the security agency in ensuring the success of the election.

He said ,Local government election is very important, that’s the grassroot contact. It’s important for everyone to exercise civic responsibility for candidacy by choice.

“I must commend the security agencies for maintaining adequate security in most of the polling units. I believe the process is very good and free and I believe we’d have a conducive environment all through the election.”

“I must commend OSIEC for ensuring that there’s adequate election materials for people to come around and vote. I think it’s been so far so good.”

Although people have come out to vote, there’s been a manageable amount of political apathy from other residents. .

TimeNewsNg Reports that the opposition party People Democratic party (PDP) and other political parties didn’t participate in the election.

Last local government was conducted in 20017 under Rauf Aregbesola administration.
