I Seek To Be Nigeria President Not On Religious Grounds – Tinubu Tells CAN

Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to protect all religious interests if elected.

He assured that all faiths and religions will be well treated based on the principles of equity, fairness and justice.

He gave the assurance on Wednesday during an interaction with leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Abuja, The Nation reports.

The former Lagos Governor said his political career has been characterised by great respect and projects for Christian interests.

His words: “Thank you for your kind invitation. I seek to become President of Nigeria. Not on the basis of faith or religion. I depend on the preface of the constitution which says “We the people”…

“My belief in the need for a secular government and faith based organisation to work in unity is not something I adopted recently to benefit my campaign. This cooperative agenda describes my entire political career.

“I started the yearly thanksgiving in Lagos and never based my appointments on ethnic and/or religious bent.

“When we came into office in 1999, there was a small mosque but no chapel in the Lagos State Government House. My wife said we must build a chapel. The architect was a Muslim so was the Commissioner of works Rauf Aregbesola.’’
