The Senate has set up a 6 man adhoc committee to investigate an Alleged N860m Scandal in the National Health Insurance Scheme NHIS.
Deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over plenary Tuesday, set up the committee following a motion raised by sen. Marafa Kabir (Zamfara Central)
Sen Marafa in his motion stressed the need to thoroughly probe happenings art the NHIS “Averting the looming crises and monumental corruption in Nigeria’s Health and Insurance Scheme, a time for action”
While the motion was seconded by senator Mao Ohuabunwa of Abia North who suggested that the executive secretary should appear before the senate “to get proper clarification from the body”
The senate after deliberation resolved to probe the executive secretary of the agency and names senators Ahmad Lawan, Lanre Tejuoso, Bassey Akpan, Marafa Kabir, Kabir Garba and Ahmed Ogembe as members of the committee.
The committee is expected to investigate the ” unholy activities of the Executive Secretary of the agency, Usman Yusuf from the date of his appointment”
