Ife Crisis: Senate To Send Delegates To Ife, Tasks IGP On Thorough Investigation

The Nigerian Senate has resolved to asked the Inspector general of Police, Suleiman Ibrahim to thoroughly investigate the major causes of the Ile- Ife dispute‎ which claimed 46 lives.

The resolution was reached following a motion sponsored by Senator Jibrin Barau, Kano North‎ on the Ethnic clash in Ile-Ife, Osun state.

Barau observed that the dispute came at a time when strenuous efforts are being made to build bridges of understanding among all ethnic groups in the country as a symbol of one people united under one Nation.

Senator representing Ile-Ife, Babajide Omoworare protested that he was not consulted by the sponsor of the motion before it was presented to the Senate as‎ detailed information would have been added to the motion and appeal. To his colleagues to prioritised the matter.

Presiding over the session, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu cautioned Omoworare that any Senator can proritised national issue‎ from any part of the country as the crisis will be tackled urgentlyto avoid recurrences.

The Lawmakers agreed that the federal government to bear the cost of rebuilding the damages insured from the clash as well as to pay adequate compensate to those affected‎.

T‎he Senate also proposed to send Delegates to visit where the crisis took place and  condole with the people and government of Osun State on the incident.

The delegation is expected to submit its findings to the ‎in within Two weeks.
